Bird Netting and Mesh Prevent Nesting Birds

Our client is based in the aviation sector and operate a high G test facility - done by aviators and astronauts who are subject to high levels of acceleration.

We were contacted to survey and recommend a solution that removed the risks posed by nesting birds to several compounds on site as well as plant area and solar panel array. Several species were creating risks associated with their guano/dropping. Species such as pigeons and swallows were fouling equipment, fixtures, fittings and walkways which created a significant health and safety risk to staff and visitors.

Our Solution

Bird excreta contains many different types of crawling and biting insects which can, in turn, transmit diseases such as Ornithosis and Salmonellosis to humans.  Without control, you may find yourself dealing with many new pests, feathered and otherwise. Fleas, ticks, mites and other ectoparasites thrive in and around bird nesting materials and accumulated droppings. A bird infestation can bring in more than pest birds, it can bring in millions of bugs. These pests then infiltrate buildings and spread diseases such as Ornithosis and Salmonellosis to humans.

After conducting a free survey, we proposed to achieve complete exclusion from these area by installing 19mm net to the plant and compound areas, along with installing mesh to the solar panel array to prevent nesting thus ensuring output efficiency and corrosion of any electrical equipment which can occur due the acidic content in guano. The recommendations were agreed, and a proposed schedule was put into place and actioned. Over a 4-day period the installations were completed safely and within the allotted time much to the customers satisfaction. As a result NBC have been asked back to survey and carry out additional works on site.
